The Department of English Language & Literature offers a Master of Arts program in Translation The program offers the thesis option (either traditional or applied) and the language of instruction are Arabic and English. The program aims to provide students with basic knowledge relevant to translation studies, especially theories of translation, types of lexicography, terminology, and contrastive linguistic analysis. It also aims to advance students’ abilities and sharpen their skills in translation between English and Arabic. Only thesis option is offered.

Vision

The program plans to build a body of translation specialists who can serve nationally, regionally, and internationally.

Mission

The program is the first M.A. program of its kind at the Department of English Language and Literature, and it complements and furthers the BA minor in Translation.

Educational Objectives

  • To provide an academic platform to test translation theories.
  • To develop translation students’ abilities in transferring texts in a linguistic and cultural setting.
  • To advance students’ theoretical as well as practical knowledge and understanding in translation.
  • Providing practical experience in translating different types of genres.
  • To familiarize students with Translation Studies research methods.
